About me!!

About me!!!
About meHi everyone!!!My name is Gabriela Zapata but I usually go by Gaby or Gabs. I was born and raised in Mexico City which is the world's third largest city and I love it. I love its people, culture, and more than anything its amazing night life. For this past three years I went to a boarding school (Villanova Prep) in Ojai, California a small town about 45 minutes from Santa Barbara. Some of my hobbies are playing tennis, drawing, traveling, and going out with my friends -specially if it involves singing and dancing.I've never been a big computer fan, therefore my computer background is quite simple I have none, although I must admit I have become addicted to facebook . I took a computer class a million years ago in middle school pretty much resuming my history in the subject. Regardless of my lack of computer skills I do go on my computer every day mainly for homewrok or communication with my family and friends back in Mexico or California.I consider myself an outgoing open minded person so feel welcome to come talk to me any time you want.Gabriela Zapata

Copyright- regarding Internet images-

In the last class Mr. Jason Hardin was kind enough to explain what copyright means. From what I understood copyright is the governmental recognition of a person's right, as a creator, to be the exclusive profiteer of his/her own intellectual work. It pretty much protects a person's work from its illegal distribution. Copyright is of primordial importance because it encourages the development of arts and sciences (creative activities) among individuals or groups.
According to Mr. Hardin, an article from a newspaper, a chapter in a book, a short story, essay, poem, graph, diagram, drawing, picture may be copied after having permission from the creator and for the copyright protected material. This rule has to be followed regardless of where the person wanting to use this material (in this case an "Internet image") found it.
When getting an image from the Internet it is important to remember to always credit the source of your information, to find out if the author of the work provides any sort of information in how to use his/her work and to, if feasible, get the permission from the owner of the copyright for permission.

WEB 2.0

I found the article "Times Person of the Year" by Lev Grossman in regards to the way Web 2.0-which is the world's new wide web enabling social interaction among people all over the globe- very interesting. It made me think about how Web 2.0 has indeed had an enormous impact in our daily lives. Through the use of many different and well known web sites as: facebook, youtube, and myspace, the continuation of the world's globalization or (as it is called by many economists) the " flattening" of a world-in which the exchange of information among individuals, companies, coorporations, countires etc-has come to become very simple.
The article I read, "Will the Web 2.0 bubble burst?" by Jim Rapoza talks about the classic cycles of pure technology progressing into pure marketting. According to the author, "bubble bursting" is a positive thing because it is then when technology advances and starts doing its intended job. Technology has advanced so much in the last years and will continue doing so; it constantly brings new changes upon society as well as to the ways of living our lives and relating to one another. It is hard to imagine that a more innovative technology will "burst" in the future; however, its rapid developement proves it to be correct.

Microsoft Office 2007

MICROSOFT OFFICE 2007

I do not really have any experience with Microsoft Office 2007. I have been forced to use it once or twice but other than that I am not familiarized with it at all. The times I used it took forever since I did not understand how to employ many of the new applications or could not find them. I read the book's first three chapters; however, I still do not feel confident when usinng it. I would like it if we could go over Microsoft Office 2007 in class and have some exercises that would help us practice employing it.
